Acronis True Image Home 2010 not uninstalling under Windows 7 – Rant

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

A quick rant and word of caution to any future Acronis True Image Home 2010 user. As of this article’s writing, there seems to be a bug or problem with the Acronis True Image Home 2010 Uninstaller and Windows 7.

After using Acronis True Image Home 2010 for perhaps two months or so, I decided to uninstall it and it simply would not uninstall. You go to Add/Remove programs or rather “Uninstall or change a program” in Windows 7, select Acronis and choose Uninstall and at the second dialog box it simply hangs there and does nothing.

Unfortunately due to the paid customer support that Acronis has, I have been unable to contact them about this and I guess the program will have to stay installed until Acronis gets around to providing an update or uninstaller of some sort.

Simply wanted to get this off of my chest and let others know so that they do not go and make the same mistake I did.

Updated Jan 17 2010: There is now the ability to remove Acronis True Image Home 2010 by using their clean up utility. It is located at Acronis True Image Home 2010 Clean Up Utility

Happy New Year to all for 2010

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Hello to all!! I realize that I have not posted at all for about two years now and that the few people I had visiting the site have long moved on but that is definitely okay.

I have been through so much during the last two years, being out of a job for almost a year and not knowing how the rent was going to be paid, that keeping up with a blog was the last thing on my mind.

However, things have improved since and I hope to continue with my articles and rants for quite sometime in the future.

So here is to wishing everyone a much improved 2010 and may those who are pushing to make grand things (and even smaller things) happen in their lives, here is to each and everyone’s success.

Buying Toys for Your Dog

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Owning a dog or puppy is a lot of fun. However, keeping a dog or puppy entertained so that he or she doesn’t chew on furniture, clothing, or other items is an important part of training your dog. Keeping your dog amused through the use of dog toys is one of the best ways to protect not only your furniture, but to keep your dog happy.

Nearly every dog loves to play with toys. These toys can be anything from the sticks found in your backyard – to your favorite shoe. Keeping a dog amused for any length of time depends on the personality and activity level of a specific dog, but some toys are more effective than others.

Some dogs like squeaky toys. Others can’t stand them. These types of toys usually have a squeaker hidden inside that makes a noise when the dog chews or carries the toy around. In many cases, a dog has one of two options with this kind of toy; either they’ll try to annihilate it or they will treat it with tender loving care.

Many dogs also liked stuffed animals. Of course, dog owners should take care to remove the glass marbles that serve as eyes and other attachments that may cause a dog to choke. Dog owners should ask about the type of stuffing that is used for such stuffed toys, to avoid Styrofoam beads or stuffing that may cause swallowing or choking hazards.

The link to the e-book below, which covers all types of topics – from dog toys to diet and nutrition to housebreaking and disobedience, offers suggestions and tips on buying toys for your dog.

Whether you’re buying squeaky or other types of chew toys, safety of your dog should be uppermost in your mind. Understanding your dog’s personality and behaviors before you purchase such toys will go a long way toward finding the toys that will keep your dog entertained, challenged and engaged in positive behaviors and activities.

Dog ownership means providing a safe, healthy, and fun environment for your dog, no matter what breed, gender, or size.

Successful Potty and Behavior Training for any Dog

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

I am sure many of us these days are hectic as ever and barely have time for ourselves and more so the pets, or in this case, the dog(s) we have in our lives. Here are some great tips and products if needed for helping those dog lovers in our life and yourself if you have one or two running around the house or outside to make life happier, not just for you, but for your pet also.

Tips on Potty Training your Dog:

1.If your dog is house trained or stays in the house more than outside, have a specific place where you keep a box, bed or container which you do not plan on changing every week. Use the same container or bed by keeping the color and size constant so that the container is constant in the dog's mind. The dog knows this is where it will sleep and because dogs do not soil their bedding or their sleeping surroundings, they will know to wait until you let them outside. The dog learns from the start that you control potty time.

2.After meals, give your pet a pre-determined and constant number of minutes before you take them out after their meal. Whether it is 10, 20 or 45 minutes, make sure to keep this number constant before taking them out. Later on your can always train the dog to signal to you when it is ready. Food is a trigger not only to eat but also to go. When it comes to potty training success, allow your pet to get outside when the urge is approaching. What’s more is that you shouldn’t leave food out. Put it down for them at the designated time and allow them to eat for 15 to 30 minutes and remove the bowl. Soon it will learn and that again allows you to control potty time.

3.Pick a specific spot outside where your dog should go every time and take it to that area. This helps your puppy to learn and reinforce that when it needs to go, it should only take care of business when in this area. Also the smell of urine is yet another trigger for your dog to go.

4.Don’t reward them with food. Remember that rewards need to be emotional, and therefore it is more successful to give them a reward of a patting and rub down than it is for you to hand them a treat.

5.Reward success, but don’t punish accidents. Although you will be angry and you will want to punish your pet, your pet does not see this as a bad thing. He sees it as attention. He also can become aggressive as well as not like to be around you. Dogs do not relate their potty mistake to the punishment you give them. Instead, ignore them when they do something wrong. Don’t speak to them or interact with them. Others have said to raise your voice and look directly at your puppy when you are displeased with what it did. This means that you talk to your dog in a calm way 99 percent of the time, but when you are angry or disagee with what the dog has done, you can raise your voice.

Caring for any animal is an ongoing, tiresome and at times expensive task. But due to these 5 tips and the love you have for your animal, any training should be successful.

Below is a great new product to help your dog along the correct path:

Download iPhone and iPod Movies Games Sports and eBooks

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Looking for content to fill your new iPhone or iPod so you can “finger it” even more while on the subway or just hanging out with your friends? Well then try a paid download source of course and get away from the problems of file sharing and wondering if the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) is going to come knocking on your door. This even applies to you all college students who download music for you iPhone or movies or even god forbid, some eBooks to do some reading and learn a thing or two.

If you do continue with the torrent sites, please do remember that there will always be duped files out there masquerading as music or movies and before you know it, you might have a virus on spyware on your computer. It is going to cost more than the $40 or $50 dollars to clean up your computer for sure, from the lost time and even perhaps the lost of information if the damage was really bad. So to obtain your iPhone content, would you prefer a one time payment or those sleepiness nights knowing that you might be summoned to appear in court for music sharing?

So if any of this sounds great to you or you are simply looking for more information, well then check out the services below and pick one that you have satisfied with.

Features of Global Positioning Systems – GPS

Monday, March 17th, 2008

GPS (Global Positioning System) receivers not only provide the location of vehicles say with fleet management tracking if you have delivery trucks or taxi cabs or maybe you want to keep an eye on the driving habits of your teenager, these receivers also provide other valuable and important information. Such information includes the time, location, speed, direction of travel, stored locations and the ability of course to cumulate all of this data to use it over the long term.

Now a little more detail on each type of information received by the GPS receivers. With respect to time, a GPS receiver receives time information from atomic clocks, so it is much more accurate than your average bedside clock for example.

A GPS unit provides your location in three dimensions which are latitude (x coordinate), longitude (y coordinate) and elevation. The vertical (elevation) accuracy of consumer GPS receivers is not usually that great. It is usually accurate down to 15 meters or 49 feet, 95% of the time. Some GPS units are fitted with more accurate barometric altimeters for better elevation information. Also the location can usually be displayed in a number of coordinate systems such as latitude/longitude and UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator).

With speed, this is basically how fast the vehicle is travelling and paired with this is the direction that the vehicle or person is traveling towards. Note however that if you are stationary, the GPS unit cannot use satellite signals to determine which direction you are facing but instead would use an internal electronic compass to provide this information.

Stored locations are exactly as the phrase suggests which is the ability to save on the GPS receiver the locations which you were at previously or want to go to in the future. These location positions are called waypoints and a collection of these waypoints which is used to plot a course is called a route. Finally is the great use and benefits of cumulative data. Cumulative data can generally be summed up as collecting information on total distance traveled, average speed, maximum speed, minimum speed, elapsed time and estimated arrival time for a particular location.

To take a quick detour and with reference to the site SecureWithGPS, the use of this accumulated data can be very resourceful for both families and businesses alike. Say for example you are a business owner with a fleet of trucks, owner of taxis or cabs or even just a concerned parent looking out for their teenagers, the wealth of information provided by this system is phenomenal. If you have your fleet of trucks, you can track the distance covered by each truck driver when you want from the comfort of your computer. No need to go to each GPS physically and obtain the data you need, it is instead all available in one simple to use interface. This is known as fleet management and further information can be found at SecureWithGPS . You can also erect a virtual fence or boundary so that when your truck drivers deviate outside of this virtual boundary you can be notified. How is this helpful you may ask? Well, very simply, it helps to reduce the use of business vehicles for personal use by your employees and as a result should reduce fuel costs for your fleet of vehicles. For the concerned parents out there, you can more easily keep track of where your children are saying that they went on that last trip versus where they actually went. Did they go to the mall or to the library and study? Did they go to a house of a friend or to the ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend who was causing trouble for your family?

Finally there are many other features available on GPS (Global Positioning System) units which will be discussed in another article. To mention some of these features now however are the type of displays whether monochrome, color or no screen at all also alarms, built-in maps, electronic compass, altimeters, internal memory and of course storage systems for all of this data.

Again, if you find any of this information interesting and wish to purchase or even obtain more information on the great features of GPS units you can check the website SecureWithGPS.

Types of GPS Radio Signals and GPS Receivers

Monday, March 17th, 2008

GPS satellites transmit two types of radio signals which are C/A-code and P-code. Coarse Acquisition (C/A code) is the type of signal which is used in consumer units and is known as SPS (Standard Positioning Service). C/A-code is not as accurate as P-code (which is mentioned later on) and is easier for U.S. military forces to jam and spoof, i.e. broadcast false signals to trick the receiver into thinking it is somewhere else when it really is not. The advantage of C/A-code however is that it acquires the satellite signal faster and hence obtaining an initial fix on your position takes less time. Due to this, there is an option for receivers which use P-code to track onto the C/A-code signal first then switch over to the P-code.

P-code on the other hand provides highly precise location information and it is difficult to jam or spoof. The U.S. military is the primary user of P-code transmissions and uses an encrypted form of the data so that only special receivers can access the signal. P-code broadcasts are known as the Precise Positioning System (PPS).
Now let us switch focus to that of GPS receivers. Some of this information can become pretty technical but hopefully both the novice and more advanced readers can learn and sift through the information to help them.
GPS units receive two different types of data which are Almanac and Ephemeris. Almanac data contains the approximate positions of the satellites; the data are continuously being transmitted and are stored in the memory of the GPS receiver. Ephemeris data broadcasts the precise positions of the satellites. To obtain an accurate location fix, the receiver has to know how far away a satellite is. Hence, the GPS receiver calculates the distance to the satellite by of course using signals from the orbiting satellite.
A GPS receiver needs data from multiple satellites to obtain or triangulate a position as to where the user of the GPS is located. First there is the issue of location which requires a minimum of three satellite signals. Second is that of position, which needs four satellite signals to determine your position in three dimensions: latitude, longitude and elevation. GPS receivers can generally be separated into five categories which are consumer models, U.S. military/government models, mapping/resource models, survey models and commercial transportation models. With respect to the consumer and commercial transportation models, the site SecureWithGPS provides GPS devices more catered to the consumer and commercial markets. If you think that such devices might suit your needs for fleet management of your vehicles, keeping track of the security of your car when it might be parked or even looking out for your teenage drivers, please visit the site for useful and related information.
Finally, we will take a quick look at the accuracy of GPS receivers. One can typically expect a GPS receiver to be accurate within 49 feet or 15 meters. Accuracy depends on receiver location, obstructions that block satellite signals and information received from ground-based beacons to name a few. So rest assured that after spending money to start using this widely used technology the data obtained from the GPS receivers will definitely be accurate enough to provide the user with reliable information.

What is GPS – Global Positioning System?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

The purpose of this article and hopefully other GPS (Global Positioning System) articles that I write, is to provide the user with relevant information about this technology and then if interested, allow the reader the opportunity to purchase GPS tracking systems whether for personal use or business use from a related site called SecureWithGPS.

So what is GPS you are wondering or perhaps you already know and are just looking for a refresher course? Basically, with the use of a radio receiver, i.e. a device which receives signals from the GPS satellites that orbit the Earth, you can locate yourself or the position of a vehicle for that matter anywhere on the Earth. Assuming of course, that the area you are trying to locate is covered by the GPS satellites. So in other words GPS tracking and receiving simply consists of buying a receiver, popping in some batteries, turning it on and if you have done everything right, the co-ordinates of where you are should appear on your GPS device.

One should note that there is more than one GPS system but for this article, I am referring to the Global Positioning System which is operated by the United States government and similar technology that is based on such a system. To provide a quick history, radio signals have been used for navigation dating back to the 1920s. The first step to GPS came way back in 1957 when the Russians launched Sputnik, which was the first satellite to orbit Earth. Eventually American scientists figured out that if they knew a satellite’s precise orbital position, they could accurately locate their position on Earth. The first GPS satellite was then launched in 1974 and by 1994, the full constellation of 24 satellites were in place. Hence these satellites make up the GPS system as we know it today.

Finally, one might be wondering why this technology is so widely in use or what is the big deal about it? Well, to mention a few reasons, which will hopefully be expanded on in other GPS articles, is that almost anything which has a GPS transmitter on it, it can be tracked and located fairly accurately around the world. You can attach a GPS receiver to your personal car, your children’s car, a fleet of vehicles that you may own and wish to monitor or even to locate your pet if it were to wander away and get lost. But with reference to the personal and business aspect however the website SecureWithGPS provides a great overview of what the current technology can be used for.

Benefits of Investing in the Stock Market

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Investing has become increasingly important over the years, as the future of social security benefits and for other countries, their respective government programs which supports up and coming retiring people. Most, if not all of us, want to insure and take control of our future, and a lot of us know that because of the extra burdens being placed on government or even their retirement plan safety net might not be enough to support them through their non-working years.

Investing is the answer to the unknowns of your financial future.

You may have been saving money in a low interest savings account over the years. Now, you want to see that money grow at a faster pace. Perhaps you have inherited and you need a way to make that money grow or you might even have come across similar articles such as this one from CNN Top 25 Fastest Growing Techs and wished that you also could invest in these companies. Not only do you want to own stocks but you want to provide that income to purchase a new home, provide for your children’s college education and other “material things” which we want in life.

If you want or need to make a lot of money fast, you would be more interested in higher risk investing, which will give you a larger return in a shorter amount of time. If you are saving for something in the far off future, such as retirement, you would want to make safer investments that grow over a longer period of time.

The overall purpose in investing is to create wealth and security, over a period of time so as to provide for yourself when you will not be or simply be unable to earn an income.

So if such an idea sounds useful, check out the first of many products which I hope to post in the coming weeks, that can get people started on their quest for financial freedom and if not, at least a sense of financial security in their life. See below for further information:
